MORE than 500 people arrived at the Glebe Field on Sunday for Collingham Village Gala.
Under sunny skies, the event began with a joint service between the Anglican and Methodist churches, led by Rev Maria Pallis and Rev Steve Barlow.

There was a range of stalls, children’s entertainments and refreshments, as well as music from Collingham Band and the school band.

Church warden Ann Harradine said: “It went very well. We had a beautiful morning for our united service with the bands playing and we had very nice stalls with lovely marquees.

“Then, of course, about two o’clock the rains came, but we had had a lovely morning and the whole point was to be united with all the people and the two churches.”

Villagers pulled out their umbrellas to brave the downpours for the rest of the day, which was organised by Muriel Woodward, Sandra Dean, Arty Savarani and Alan and Ann Barker, and sponsored by Marsland Timber of Wetherby and The Greenery, Thorp Arch.
