HARD work and perseverance have paid off for swimmer, Hannah Wardle, who has won a place in the UK School Games 2008.
The Tadcaster teenager is so committed to swimming that she trains nine times a week at the John Charles Aquatic Centre in Leeds and gets up at 4am some days.
Hannah, 15, who attends Tadcaster Grammar School, will attend venues in Bristol and Bath next month for this year’s UK School Games which feature some of the most talented sporting youngsters of school age from across the UK.
She will compete in the 200m breaststroke, take part in an opening and closing ceremony and meet other talented youngsters preparing themsleves for careers as elite athletes.
Hannah said: “I am really proud to have been chosen to represent the North of England team at such a major sports event and I am looking forward to mixing with the other athletes.
“It makes all the hours of training worthwhile,” she added.
Hannah will also compete in the National Championships in Sheffield next month, where she has qualified for the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, 200m and 400m Individual Medley.
She is the Yorkshire U-16 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke champion as well as the 50m senior champion and she narrowly missed selection for the Great Britain squad to compete in the European Junior Championships in Belgrade this summer.
Hannah’s parents are understandably very proud of their daughter’s swimming achievements and are full of praise for her commitment to the sport she loves.
Her father, Mr Wardle, said: “It’s great to see Hannah being recognised for all her hard work. She really deserves it.”
