THE Rotary Club of Wetherby and District has welcomed its new president this week.
Michael Armitage officially began his year in office on Tuesday, July 1, and is already planning 12 months of action for the club.

As well as local events including a pensioners’ party, a youth speaking competition and a technology contest, the club will focus on international causes including literacy, clean water and eradicating polio.

Mr Armitage has been a Rotarian for more than 30 years, first in York, then Manchester, and in Wetherby since 1998.

His links with the district go back to his childhood, which was spent at Grove House, Boston Spa.

His wife, Josephine, is president of the Inner Wheel Club of Tadcaster and Wetherby and they have three sons and six grandchildren.
