Boroughbridge win extends their lead

BOROUGHBRIDGE are steaming ahead on top of Division One in the Slazenger Harrogate and District Tennis League.
'Bridge have taken 12 points from their opening six matches while Harrogate Racquets appear to be the only early challengers against Boroughbridge for the top spot.

Racquets, in second place, have a match in hand on the leaders with eight points.

In their 8-1 victory against The Academy, the current Division One title holders, Boroughbridge were always in command, ably served by their season's newcomer Mike Kasher, who also plays for Roundhay in north Leeds.

Match details: Boroughbridge 8 The Academy 1 (Boroughbridge names first):

Mike Kasher and Kate Johnson beat Andy Taylor and Sue Rider 6-1 6-1; beat Chris Sorby and Jo Fuller 6-1 6-4; beat Dave Whitelaw and Sallyanne Brooksbank 6-4.

John Rowe and Kate Needham beat Taylor and Rider 6-4; beat Sorby and Fuller 6-4 6-5; beat Whitelaw and Brooksbank 6-1 6-2.

Ian Grasby and Suzanne Rowe halved with Taylor and Rider 1-6 6-2; beat Sorby and Fuller 6-4; halved with Whitelaw and Brooksbank 6-3 2-6.

In Division Two Bedale are making an early challenge for an immediate return to the top flight. They jointly top the table with Ripon, both sides having eight points.

Bedale's early promise was underlined with a 6.5-2.5 victory at Starbeck.

Bedale's Mark Scarlett and Helen Broadwith combined to win all their three matches and there was also a trio of victories for the Paul Swin and Althea Draper partnership. Meanwhile John Hart and Julia Todd halved their match.

Div Three: Harlow B 4.5 Northallerton A 1.5; West Tanfield 4.5 Knaresborough 4.5; Ripon B 3.5 Harlow C 5.5; Thirsk A 8 Dacre 1.

Div Four: Bedale A 3 Wetherby 6; Ripon C 4 Thirsk B 5; Spa 8.5 Harlow D 0.5; Wetherby A 4.5 Dacre A 1.5.
