Litter Clearing Group: There will be a planning get-together for volunteers in early September. We do need more members to cover the full area of Birstwith Parish.

July concert in St James' Church, Birstwith: Saturday July 4 at 7.30pm Summer Souvenirs - A supper Concert by Marika Van der Meer (soprano) & Beryl Pankhurst (piano).

A programme for all tastes including opera, operetta and popular songs by these two well-known artistes with supper intertwined with music. This promises to be a superb evening of beautiful music, good food and a chance to see Lower Nidderdale at its summer best.

The concert is being promoted as part of the Nidderdale Festival. Tickets are only £10 including supper (£5 for school students). Tickets are limited in number and are available from John Mitchell (01423 770412, johnm2107@talktalk.net) Please book in advance.

Birstwith 5k Fun Run: This will be held on Sunday, July 19 at 10am. Starting and finishing at the Old Station Inn this 5k run will go through the heart of Birstwith.

Entry and registration forms available from Heather on 07545009981 or at the Old Station Inn. £2 entry - all proceeds to the British Heart Foundation. Refreshments at finish and awards of 1st - 3rd out of each category (overall, women and under 16's). Claire King will open the race depending on filming schedule.

Tasty Treat: Try this recipe for Crab Rolls :-

500g crab meat

1 lemon zest and juice

2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce

pinch of cayenne pepper

1 tsp ground coriander

2 tsp fresh coriander chopped

2 tbsp mayonnaise

salt and pepper

2 sheets spring roll pastry per roll

Flake crab meat and add all the other ingredients seasoned to taste. Place two sheets of spring roll pastry on top of each other and brush eggwash around the edges. Put a spoonful of crab mix to one edge of the pastry. Fold the four sides over and roll up into a cylinder shape.

Deep fry for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Serve with chilli sauce. Enjoy.
