A61 roadworks cause traffic chaos

Roadworks on one Harrogate’s main commuter routes led to huge delays and tailbacks this morning.

Temporary traffic lights on the A61 near Dunkeswick and Harewood caused huge traffic jams, with up to four miles of tailbacks.

Yorkshire water are carrying out work on the road and the traffic lights will remain in place until April 7.

The A61 is one of the key commuting routes between Harrogate and Leeds. According to census data around 14,000 people travel between Leeds and Harrogate for work each day.
