Tadcaster residents work in floods
Bridge Street, the main route through the town, was cleared of surface water flooding last Thursday.
A spokesman for Tadcaster Community Action Group, which was formed to provide flood and community support, posted on facebook last Thursday evening: “What an evening.
“Bridge Street is open and clear of surface water flooding.
“Many thanks for everyone’s help.”

Flood water engulfed football grounds in Tadcaster and workers at the neighbouring brewery were forced to make their way around the site on wooden pallets.
The pitch and part of the supporters’ stand at Tadcaster Albion’s grounds were completely submerged with flooding from the nearby Wharfe.
The town’s bridge famously collapsed in floods in 2015, splitting it effectively in half for many months following.

“Tadcaster’s “Flood Alert” trigger point is 2.75m, please be aware the Ings and access roads will be flooded for some time. Do not approach flood water.
“Tadcaster - thank you for being such an amazing community.”

“There are several options under consideration to mitigate the damage that any future flooding of the town might cause.
“One of the possible solutions in particular seems to provide the necessary measures to safeguard our ground and we are working with the Environmental Agency to pursue this alternative to avoid the catastrophic problems we have suffered in recent times - indeed the “Global Stadium” is again under water at this moment.”
