The Pavilions of Harrogate Antiques Fair promises a range of items for all tastes and pockets

Lasting value and sustainability are two of the key attractions for buyers at the Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair, which is preparing for its winter edition.

Between January 27 and 29, one of the foremost experts in Yorkshire, Elaine Phillips Antiques, will be presenting a fine collection at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

Organiser Sue Ede from Cooper Fairs is in no doubt about the value of purchasing an antique. She said: “Antiques have proved to be the most sustainable of all kinds of interior design and decor. The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair is a fine quality art, antiques & decorative event featuring specialist dealers from across the UK. Entrance to the fair is £5.00 and it is open from Friday to Sunday, 11am-5.00pm , But you can receive free tickets by going to the website here.

Elaine Phillips Antiques began in the 1960s in Harrogate. Now, her daughter Louise Phillips helps customers across the UK find their perfect piece from her base in Leyburn. In addition, she offers a full interior design service and is Chairman of the British Antique Dealers’ Association (BADA).

Among the items at this winter’s fair is a set of late eighteenth century ladderback Lancashire country dining chairs, an extremely popular and practical 19th century oak farmhouse table and a rare 17th century oak wall cupboard.

There is something for virtually every taste, whether that is fine paintings to mid-century furniture, garden items or objets d’art.

Expert dealers at the fair will include Hickmet Fine Art from London, with Art Nouveau and Art Deco bronzes and glass including a gold painted bronze depicting a reclining Cleopatra by renowned sculptor Demetre Chiparus (1866-1947), priced at £15,500.

David Hickmet will have a selection of excellent early 20th century glass, including pieces by Emile Galle, Rene Lalique, Loetz and the Daum factories.

Opus Antiques from the West Country, specialising in rare and collectable treen and small furniture will be making a first appearance, as will Alan Coutts from Scotland with a range of ceramics, glass and collector’s items.

Granta Fine Art, with 20th century Modern British paintings, Saul Greenstein with fine 19th and 20th century jewellery and Rowles Fine Art with 20th century and contemporary works and sculpture will be making welcome returns.

Art Deco ceramics, glass and silver will be on display from Brian Ashbee and Wes Wotruba Antiques will have Art Deco works in ceramic, glass and silver while John Newton Antiques has 20th century studio pottery and porcelain. Meanwhile, Garret & Hurst have a wonderful collection of French and European bronze sculpture, and the antique silver of Highland Antiques will grace the event

As for furniture, Mark Buckley Antiques has late Victorian and early 20th century walnut furniture and bronzes, and Melody Antiques has country pieces and collectables.

Also not to be missed are Hispanic Antiques, with Spanish sculpture and collector’s pieces; Shapiro & Co with 19th and 20th century British and European jewellery and silver including Faberge; Plaza with 19th and 20th century jewellery; Slades Antiques and interior design pieces for the home and garden, and Bottlebrook Antiques with 18th and 19th century porcelain including rare coffee cans.
