HARROGATE Borough Council is holding a second public consultation on proposals for Jacob Smith Park in Scriven.
Tomorrow’s meeting will take place between 9.30am and 2.30pm in Park Grove Methodist Church.

Over 39 acres of private walled parkland were transferred to the council under the will of the late Miss Winifred Jacob Smith for the use of local residen
ts and visitors.

The council has to work within the terms of the bequest but it was agreed that, when the land was made public, local residents would be consulted on its future look.

The results of the first public meeting held in January this year showed that most people think the park needs more access points; that it should continue to look as natural as possible but that suitable surfacing should be provided for wheelchairs and pushchairs; that motorised vehicles should not be allowed and that sports pitches of any kind should not be included in the park land.

The results will be available at tomorrow’s meeting which will focus on the location of the entranceways, the style of gates, car parking and park signage.

Discussions will also take place on the question of footpath surfaces and layouts.

Questionnaires will be available on the day as well as on the council’s website. Those attending will have the opportunity to walk around the site with a member of the Parks team.

Once the results of the second consultation are known, a final report will be drafted and a work plan established.

It is also proposed that a Friends of Jacob Smith Park be created.
