SIXTH Form students from King James's had success in the bag when they entered a regional competition for young entrepreneurs.
Magic Number Enterprise, which has been in business since last October, produce reusable canvas bags and sales have already topped 400.
The team started the business from scratch, coming up with the idea, then sourcing designs and organising costi
ngs, manufacture, advertising and sales.
And at the Harrogate and Craven District Young Enterprise Finals at the Pavilions their efforts were rewarded when they took prizes for the Best Report and Most Innovative Product, and finished third overall in the competition. They also won £150 from Bettys & Taylors, which will go back into the business.
Business teacher Mrs Vicky Holt said: “It’s been a challenging year and the first time we have entered this competition. The students have worked really hard and thoroughly deserve the accolades.”
The group would also like to thank their link advisor, Steve Henderson, from GSPK, for all his help and support.
This is their second major success, coming after victory in the Griffins Nest competition, a Dragons Den-style challenge held at York Racecourse in February.
The Magic Number team - Sophie York, Lucy Russell, James Tattersall, Brendan Hazlett, Josh Watkins, Ian Lynn and Rob Parsons – will be running a stall at the Fun Run on Sunday, May 11 when they hope to boost sales still further.
