IT was a clean sweep for the Liberal Democrats in the three by-elections held for Knaresborough Town Council held last Thursday.
Voters elected the three Liberal Democrat candidates to fill the empty places on the town council after three councillors, also Liberal Democrat, resigned in April and May this year.
Jo Walton and Simon St John-Jones were elected as Ward Representatives for Knaresborough East and Bert Holbrook was elected as Ward Representative for Knaresborough Scriven Park.
The turnout of voting was 29.2% for Knaresborough East and 32.1% for Scriven Park.
The new council of 15 councillors met on Monday evening for the first time.
“This is a great result and reflects the hard work put in by members of the Town Council over the last few years,” said Claire Kelley (Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Harrogate and Knaresborough).
“I am delighted and look forward to working with the new members of the council” added MP Phil Willis.
