ONCE again Age Concern in Knaresborough is involved in the Innocent Drinks project; knitting little bobble hats for bottles!
Last year the knitters of Knaresborough produced an amazing 1,150 hats in every colour and combination, all complete with a bobble on top.
The challenge for Knaresborough this year is to knit 2,000 and judging by last year's effort, that should be
achievable
This is the sixth year that Innocent Drinks have run the project, now renamed The Big Knit, displaying the bottles in the chill cabinets in Sainsbury's stores, wearing the little bobble hats, and, for every bottle sold, Innocent donates 50p to Age Concern, 47p of this amount going directly to Age Concern Knaresborough.
The Knaresborough Post knows of one local well-known knitter, Mrs Pat Wainman, who has already 180 hats to her credit, and, is still going strong.
The hats will keep the bottles warm in chilly refrigerated cabinets and hopefully will remind people of the difficulties older people face in winter when the temperature drops.
Patterns are available, together with instructions on how to make the bobbles, which will not be supplied this year, from the Knaresborough Post newspaper office, 90, High Street.
It is very important this pattern is followed correctly as the hats must fit the bottle and hats of the wrong size will not be used.
Variations in design and colour are of course encouraged. In fact, the more imaginative the better!
We have a limited time to achieve the target so urge all knitters to call in, collect your pattern, and cast on!
The deadline for bringing your hats into the Knaresborough Post is Friday, October 3.
