THE annual Plough Sunday Service is set to take place at St John's Church in Knaresborough on Sunday, January 11 at 10.30am.
Plough Sunday is traditionally held on the first Sunday after Epiphany, and the day before Plough Monday, when sword-dancers celebrated the return to the fields after the 12 days of Christmas.

The celebrations saw them taking round a plough and collecting money, usually carried out to the accompaniment of much drinking and lively antics by the 'Plough Stots' - men dressed as bullocks.

After the service, during which the plough is blessed, sword dances will be performed by the Claro Sword and Morris Men Dancers, both at the church and then afterwards in the Market Place at around noon.

Everyone is welcome to come and take part in the event.
