Knaresborough reaches feva pitch for August festival

KNARESBOROUGH has reached feva pitch with the start of the Knaresborough Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts.
The ten-day festival began with the opening ceremony on August 10 in Knaresborough market place as the first of the free street entertainment got underway.

The packed programme contains something for everyone to enjoy.
The popular Arts Trail includes eye-catching optical illusions, sculptures, stained glass, topiary and art exhibitions to appeal to all tastes.

Culinary delights are on offer nightly at Knaresborough's pubs and restaurants, with cuisine from around the world being served.
For lovers of theatre there will be an open air production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing and Knaresborough Players present Steel Magnolias.

The spoken word events there will be an audience with local author Diane Setterfield, and a talk on the Yorkshire links with the slave trade, Merchants, Plantations and Slave Traders.
A film biography of Country music legend Johnny Cash, Walk the Line, will be shown at the Frazer Theatre.

Music ranges from acoustic guitar with 18 year old Gareth Pearson, classical with Elgar 150 celebrations, Classical Fun with the Chuckerbutty Ocarina Quartet and Knaresborough Pro Musica's Festival Finale to folk, rock and blues music in pubs and at the Frazer Theatre, and Jazz in the Garden.

Knaresborough Lions are holding a Beer Festival at Knaresborough House on August 10 and 11.

Family events include Family feva at Henshaw's Arts and Crafts centre and Picnic in the Park at Knaresborough House and you can discover the dark secrets of Knaresborough's past on the Knaresborough Castle Ghost tour.
