AS winter sets in, even the hardiest Harrogate folk are in need of a little defence against the cold.
They may be made of stone, but the six figures who perch atop the Victoria Shopping Centre have been kitted out for the coming months.

The now-annual tradition means the residents of one of the chilliest spots in the town centre - from which they have watched over shoppers since 1992 - are sporting seasonal woolly hats and scarves.

Shopping centre manager David Horth said: "The figures are three storeys high on top of the building and with colder weather coming on we took the opportunity while installing our Christmas lights display to fit them with warmer winter headgear."

The clothes were donated by a fellow shopping centre resident, Hats on Top.
