WHICH came first, the chicken or the egg?
An answer may be one step closer this July, after an anticipated 1,000 people gather in the Valley Gardens for a huge egg and spoon race.
One egg will come first – but it's not really about winning. It's about trying to break the Guinness world record, which currently stands at 859 racers.
Dubbed the Big Picnic, the July 13 event will be the second time Harrogate has set its sights on the record after a heavy downpour last year.
Attractions promised from noon on the day including brass bands, a Punch and Judy display, a circus workshop, bouncy castles and more.
Eggs and spoons will be provided on the day for a £1 entry fee, with all the proceeds going to Woodland's Children Ward at Harrogate Hospital.
The money raised will go towards providing a canopy for the outdoor play area.
