A RAPIST from Harrogate was yesterday jailed for at least four years for a series of assaults in the town.
Garry Amos Wright, 45, of Albert Place, was sentenced to a lengthy spell in prison for the rape of a woman in July 2008.
Police say that Wright plied the woman with drink and attacked her at her home in Harrogate.
He was also sentenced to two years for an indecent assault on a 15-year-old girl in 1998.
Police said yesterday that Wright had attacked the young girl as she was walking along Cold Bath Road at night.
Recognised attacker
She had not reported it to police until last year, when she saw him in a Harrogate club and recognised her attacker.
Another charge has landed Wright with a third term to run concurrently, of a year in prison for possessing criminal property.
A police raid in 2008 had found £2,000 worth of stolen property at his house, including DVDs, computer games, and perfume.
Det Con Fiona Ayre of North Yorkshire Police said she was satisfied that justice had been served.
"The sentence today reflects the serious nature of the offences," she said.
'Traumatic ordeal'
"He subjected the victims to a traumatic ordeal and put them through giving evidence - they should rightly feel proud that they had the courage to report the matter to the police and attend court. The victims have been supported through the justice process and hopefully they can take some comfort from the fact that Wright will no longer pose a risk to women."
"It is clear from the evidence presented before the court that Wright posed a significant threat to women and I am satisfied that justice has finally been served. The fact that Wright is no longer a menace to society will hopefully provide some comfort to all his victims."
