Knaresborough & District Fuchsia & Pelargonium Society.
OUR speaker at the March 27 monthly meeting was David Bancroft.who gave a very useful talk and practical demonstration of how to grow on rooted cuttings of Fuchsias and Pelargoniums (geraniums).
As we received our show competition cuttings tonigh
t, his advice was particularly relevant in encouraging members to strive for the best possible results. Our Annual Show in July marks the conclusion of our efforts when the results will be judged. The main points to remember are to pot on when the roots reach the pot wall using a well draining compost especially so with Fuchsias. Grow in cool, well ventilated conditions, feed half strength regularly when in the final pot and don't forget to make the last pinching out at least six weeks before the show to ensure plants flower on schedule.
Judging by the number of members present, there is a high level of enthusiasm at the start of the 2008 season.
On Thursday, April 24, Des Mossop, an experienced grower and a British and European Geranium Society judge will speak to us on the subject of Growing and Propagating Pelargoniums. This will be at our usual venue, the Harlow Carr Study Centre, Harrogate.
New members and visitors are always most welcome at our regular meetings. For further details of the meeting dates and the subjects to be covered, please telephone our Secretary, John Dykes, on 01423 862580 who will be pleased to mail you a programme of events.
